1 month pregnant

Quick answer

At 1 month pregnant (weeks 1 to 4), you may not know you're pregnant yet. Pregnancy is counted from your last period, so you conceive around week 2, and the embryo implants in your womb around week 4. A missed period is usually the first sign.

Which weeks are 1 month pregnant?

1 month pregnant covers weeks 1 to 4, in the first trimester. Doctors count pregnancy in weeks from the first day of your last period, so months are only approximate. Not sure how far along you are? Try our how many weeks pregnant am I calculator.

Week 4

Our week-by-week guide starts at 4 weeks, when most women find out they are pregnant.

Your baby at 1 month pregnant

In the first two weeks, your body is getting ready to ovulate; you aren't actually pregnant yet. Around week 2 an egg is released and fertilised. Over the next few days, the fertilised egg divides again and again as it travels down the fallopian tube, then burrows into the lining of your womb. By the end of the month it is a tiny ball of cells, and the placenta is starting to form and make hCG, the hormone pregnancy tests detect.

Your body at 1 month pregnant

Most women notice nothing until their period is late, around the end of week 4. Some feel early symptoms such as sore breasts, tiredness, mild cramps or light spotting when the egg implants. A home pregnancy test usually turns positive from around the day your period is due.

Questions about being 1 month pregnant

Can I be 1 month pregnant and not know?

Yes. Most women don't know they are pregnant until their period is late, at the very end of the first month. Many have no symptoms at all this early.

Do you have a bump at 1 month pregnant?

No. Your baby is a tiny ball of cells and your womb hasn't grown yet. Any bloating is caused by hormones, not the baby.
